Effect of GA3 and Artificial Pollination on Fruit Set and Growth of ¢¥ Fuyu ¢¥ Persimmon (Diospyros kaki)

Abstract
Effects of GA©ý sprays and artificial pollination on fruit set and growth of ¢¥Fuyu¢¥ persimmon (Diospyros kaki) were investigated in an orchard at Kimhae area for two years. Gibberellic acid was sprayed at 100 ppm, once in 1996 but three times in 1997 around the flowering time. The trees received the same treatment in both years. In 1996, percentages of fruit set were 20, 70, and 15 for the GA©ý-sprayed, pollinated, and control trees, respectively. In 1997, however, the percentages increased up to 67 and 41 for the GA©ý-sprayed and control trees, respectively. In pollinated trees, percentage of fruit set was 65, which was similar to that observed in 1996. Fruits from the GA©ý-sprayed trees in 1996 were smaller than those from the control trees. In 1997, although there was no significant difference in fruit weight, the length of the fruits from the GA©ý-sprayed trees tended to be shorter than the others. Gibberellic acid sprays increased the proportion of seedless fruits; seed number was significantly decreased by the sprays.
